Voluntarily tagged by Trish... and I just realized that I admire all my friends for certain things and that I have yet to have a friend whom I did not admire. Sometimes, to the point of enviousness LOL Anyway... back to the meme... er, Trish, what the heck is a "meme" anyway?

Lucky, lucky me that I actually have a cool book on hand LOL Seriously. I'm re-reading the Harry Potter series (after I did a Harry Potter movie marathon) and I'm in the fourth book. In fact, it's sitting in front of me right now, opened to page 550 so I can read while waiting for Net pages to download.

Movie Madness

Has anybody watched The Da Vinci Code? That movie rocks! Not as much as the book, though.

I have two complaints:
1. How come Sophie was never able to solve any riddle in the movie? Why did they make her seem so stupid? Like a pretty face with nothing between the ears, especially since we get flashbacks that she grew up doing puzzles and treasure hunts. She only got the number sequence right and that was it.
2. How come they ended the movie with the Priory of Scion not knowing where Mary Magdalene's sarcophagus lies? And only Robert Langdon figured it out.

And a few compliments:
1. Beautifully written and shot. All the flashback sequences were great (although I somehow kept thinking "CSI shots" when I saw them... that's what one gets when one has been doing a semi-continuous CSI marathon for 1-2 months).
2. At first I thought the pacing was a bit slow, but if they made it any faster, nobody would understand it. So it's all good; suspense from beginning to end. They were certainly faithful to the spirit of the book.
3. Alhtough I initially did not like the casting of Tom Hanks as Langdon, he actually pulls it off pretty good. As for the rest of the cast - great, great choices. Audrey Tautou is so, so pretty.
4. I thank all that's holy that they took out the romance between Langdon and Neveu. Even in the book, I went kind of "eh". It's so trite, almost.

Can't believe they banned the movie in Manila City, complete with jail time if you get caught playing it in your movie house. Wtf is that?! Crazy. And SM theatres are also not showing it coz Henry Sy doesn't like it. Man, get over it already. It's a freaking movie! And Langdon blabs about "evidence tells us Jesus was an inspiration (blah-blah), but what really matters is what you believe" near the end (I think he stresses the whole "it's iportant what you believe" a couple of times), which tells me that the makers of the movie wanted to appease the religious critics or whatever.

I figure MTCB (or whatever the ~all-powerful~ local movie group is called) rated the movie R-18 due to the ideas the movie says rather than any scene - a definite first for me. The only other rated R movie that I remember watching is The Golden Bowl which got it's rating due to sexual scenes. For this movie... PG-13 would've been fine.
