Coz Of Ro
(and I tag others from Zobel, aka, as I like to call them: Zobellians)
I just know I'm going to looooove answering this :D
Anong batch mo?
2000
Sinong principal inabutan mo?
(Wow, Ro, you have a better memory than I do; I actually forgot about Cadlum). Cadlum when I was a wee little child and my brother was still studying in Zobel too. Figuerres - I never knew how to spell her name; she was more known as "F Alert" anyway LOL then we had Lozada... and Gloria somebody or somebody Gloria for Division 1 just as I was about to graduate. We also had... uh... uh... the friend of Figuerres? L-something? Lau-whatever. The girl who was F-Alert's best friend or something. They even looked alike. Cadlum, although I've never really met him and usually talked to my seatmate when he made speeches, was really nice daw. Figuerres was a terror but was actually really nice when you talked to her. Lozada will forever remain in my memory as the guy who, for every single school event that required him to be behind the microphone, made us al sing "I'm alive, alert, awake, enthusiastic! I'm alive, alert, awake, enthusiastic. I'm alive, alert, awake, I'm alive, alert, awake, I'm alive, alert, awake, enthusiastic" and also the whole, "when you're happy and you know it, clap your hands (clap! clap!) If you're happy and you know it, stomp your feet!" I mean, those stuff were cute when you're, like, in prep or Grade 3 but don't you think it's a little too, well, corny when one is in high school?
Nagbibigay ka ba sa mission collection lagi?
Not always. I always tried to make a point to give, though, then our adviser in third year, the famous Mr. Jade close-the-two-doors Laygo made it mandatory to give mission collections. He insisted on winning the "highest Mission Collection" weekly thing. We had to give 10 bucks ever Wednesday. He went about collecting in a semi-annoying slightly-amusing way. Like, if you're late on a Wednesday, he made sure you couldn't enter the classroom until you've paid up. And if you irritated him that day, you had to give extra. I remember Noel Mallari who did something one Wednesday and Laygo was giving him a sermon and Noel was like, "Oh, tama na, tama na. Eto na, 20 para sa mission, okay? Okay na tayo?" then Laygo talked a bit some more and Noel was, like, "teka, eto pa, magbibigay pa ako" until Lagyo let up.
Napatawag ka na ba ng principal?
Hm... As far as I know... nope. But I did go to F's office once coz I had cousins visiting from the States and they wanted to sit in so I had to ask her permission. She was pretty nice.
Sa aling school program ka pinakanatuwa?
Cheering Competition! Iba ang pakiramdam tuwing intrams. It was an 'us and them' thing. And yeah, Foundation Week celebrations are always fun. <--ditto! LOL It's too bad they took out the grade school cheering competition and then moved the competition to a Saturday instead of the old, traditional Wednesday Cheering Competition that always signaled the start of Foundation Week. I only fully appreciated most of the things I did in HS when I was already in college. I liked that they made us do term papers in fourth year, that we had writing and speech classes to train us. I adored Mrs. Reyes' ("Mama Luds") back-to-back reflections that helped teach me to be able to express my thoughts using the right number of words. I loved our English classes where we had to read Classical Literature and make sense of dead people's poems. I miss Mr. Llaguno's Filipino "classes" and the way he yelled over the microphone that was already set to "really, really loud" whenever it was Cheering practices. I miss a lot of things.
Ano nilaruan mo sa intrams?
Kickball forever! Hahaha they once tried to get me to join volleyball coz we were short a player and would forfeit the game. They almost dragged me, kicking and screaming, but I succeeding in avoiding them all until I heard that my crush took my place and then I rushed to the gym to cheer him (and my class, obviously) on.
Nakakain ka ba kina Mr. Teo?
Who hasn't? LOL he's, like, an institution. And I do miss his iced tea, kuchay pie, Chinese pie, dumplings (fried and boiled). I learned to eat all those Chinese foods coz of him. I learned to drink iced tea coz of him. I learned to love toyo coz of him. I learned how to eat with toothpicks coz of him.
Naging prayer/Lupang Hinirang/Panatang Makabayan ka ba sa monthly assembly sa auditorium?
Hell, never. Oh, wait... we did. Once. I think. I don't remember what I did, if I did anything, but I sure remember Nicole Sta Maria reciting the "Panatang Makabayan" while I hovered behind her.
May memories ka ba sa gate 3?
UMABOB! Oh, God, I do miss you, Lee :D hehehe when I was a kid, I used to ride the school buses there but I was only, God, maybe 5 or 7 years old back then. It's hysterical. I had this prof in med school whom I totally crushed and we made small talk when I found out he graduated from Zobel. He was the same batch as my brother and he remember me from when we were busmates. Gosh. I didn't even remember knowing him back then! He even recalled where we lived. Ooh! I also remember this one time when I was absent during my morning classes for whatever reason and I had to pass by gate 3 to enter so that I could go to my afternoon classes. Bawal daw kasi pumasok sa ibang gate, so kelangan gate 3. Tapos we used to line up there, during one year, coz dun yung assembly namin after breaktimes to get back to class. I remember the guys who would be standing in the coolest spots, sitting in the available places, while the girls had no choice but to stand around in the sun. Tapos the guys pa would borrow the fans of the girls. Hay naku. I remember how hot it was there.
Eh sa library?
Oo naman. Not so much when it was in the third floor and when I was in grade school. I used it more often when I was in high school. Although I was never one of those people who went to the library para magpalamig (it was always full during recess and lunch), I did have moments in the library. I do remember in fourth year, we had all these assignments that had to be typewritten and since I could type pretty fast, my friends usually asked me to type their assignments for them. All I asked in exchange was a few munchkinds from the donut store in the canteen LOL
Anong year ka nasama sa top ten?
Hahaha how about, never? I was average.
Ano part mo sa production niyo sa Florante at Laura?
Florante at Laura? Hm... second year, right? Gosh. The only thing I vividly remember from that year was Don Ecle and... and... Aster Bedico running towards each other from across the stage (Aster was Florante and Ecle was Laura) accompanied by Mariah Carey's "Breakdown" and a couple of guy extras spread out in the background, moving their butts in imitation of Mariah's video. I do know I was not part of the props since I have no artistic talent whatsoever. Gosh. I don't remember my role there.
Nung Noli fest?
LMAO haha script writer! Right, Lee? Got exempted from the finals coz of that LOL I remember spending loads of afternoon's at Lee's house, reading the book and writing the script. Coz of that, I didn't have to study during our quizzes or long tests or even quarterly exams. I knew the book front to back. 'Course, ask me now and all I can tell you is that the lead is Crisostomo Ibarra and Maria Clara is stupid. Oh! And Padre Damaso ate the chicken's neck and some really thin priest masturbated in the woods coz of Maria Clara. Oh, and it was horror trying to fix practices. I think we had it once in EJ's house and good luck trying to get Carlo Trillo, Michael Yuseco, and Primo Penaranda to cooperate. Or even show up.
El Fili fest?
Again... I don't remember. I do remember that my entire kabarkada had roles to play and stuff. I knew I wasn't scriptwriter... I think I was an extra?
Pinaka-mabait na teacher?
Mama Luds! God, I miss her. I recall she made me kurot, like, twice or three times. Once for wearing shorts (it wasn't THAT short! and it was Intrams! Sports day!), another for wearing sleeveless (it was HOT!) and last coz Mark Misa and I were joking around in the corridor and he carried me and just our luck Mrs. Reyes caught us. Nakurot tuloy kami. I do remember quite a lot of teachers who were really nice :) It'd take a while to write them all down. And, sadly, I've forgotten the names of some of them :(
Pinaka-masamang teacher?
Badillo! hahaha! Well, she wasn't mean exactly. She was just... well... mataray and unreasonable. And yet, outside of the classroom, she was bearable. Still mataray, but bearable. Oh, God, now I suddenly remember Onedasan from first! LMAO "Get the pee-tee-see form!"
Na-clinic ka ba?
Hm... yeah, yeah. In sixth grade I came to school with chicken pox and apparently, I was one week too early for my hindi-nakakahawa phase. I singlehandedly started a chicken pox epidemic in my batch LOL I think I downed about 4 people in June or July. And I think once or twice I remember I went to the clinic coz I wasn't feeling well and had to go home. I avoided going though, unless I had to. Unlike some I could name who went to the clinic on an almost weekly (or even daily) basis due to "headache" and "nahihilo". Our school probably gave out Biogesic by the banig.
Ano ang pangalan ng school nurse?
I never knew...
Nagka-bagsak na grade ka ba?
Never. Well, some quizzes and long exams. But never quarterly and never in the report card. Oh, wait, I did! Almost, at least. Got a 75 in algebra in HS. Which is weird coz I really like the teacher and I passed college algebra with flying colors coz of first year HS' algebra.
Anong paborito mong bilhin sa canteen?
Lots LOL Snacca Chika was a particular favorite of mine. I liked all the food in the second floor as well as sizzling and Japanese. I'd eat more of the Japanese if they didn't serve you the food swimming in butter.
Anong ginagawa mo tuwing fair or foundation week?
When there was rides, I rode the rides. Loved octopus and scrambler. And the half ferris wheel things. When they took out the rides... movies. Nagbabantay ng booth ng may booth. Trying to avoid getting caught. That didn't really work when I became HS... when I was in grade school, I could still pass off as fifth grade and I remember saying I was still in the fifth grade when I was actually in the seventh and the fourth year HS who caught me let me go. I mean, hello, there was no way I was ending up in the jail booth! Oh, I also ate a lot during fair. And hung out a lot with friends.
Tumatambay ka ba sa parking lot ng gate 5?
Where the hell was gate 5? The main parking, the new one? Not really. My bus was parked there but I only went there when it was nearing the time to leave. I usually hung around school before heading to the van and heading home.
Favorite tambayan?
Empty classrooms. --> ditto. Especially senior year classrooms LOL love the aircon! Um... my fave tambayan... I remember grade 3, the trees near gate 2... the small field before it became that entertainment place... canteen... Umabob in gate 3... covered walk... ayon.
Anong parusa sa inyo pag late kayo?
Did we have any? LOL I was always late but never given any punishment.
Ano ang ibig sabihin ng SRCC?
Well, Ro answered it for me, so I didn't really have to think about it LOL Student Representative Coordinating Council.
Sino president nyo nung 4th year kayo?
Raynee Moran --> yknow, I forgot his name. I was about to answer, "that white guy who wasn't too tall and had loads of energy".
Nag-cutting classes ka na ba?
Hm... yeah. First year was the first time, I think. I don't remember if I did it in the other years.
Nagyoyosi ka ba dun sa parking sa gate 5?
Nope. My "smoking" (if it could be called that) started (again, if it could be called that) near the end of fourth year and more of college.
Kumusta naman yung locker mo sa classroom?
I never got to use the lockers outside the classroom. The one you paid for and had your own lock to, mostly because my parents didn't want me to. And it was all right since I left my books underneath my desk. Gamit na gamit yung locker ko nung fourth year. All my pads were there and when I'd be absent, my friends and classmates all knew where to get pad pader coz they never brought any (they'd tell me they got a few when I returned to school). My jackets were also there. Why plural? Coz I originally brought one.. then someone mentioned wanting to see my leather jackets so I brought them both. They stayed in my locker for a while, being used by my friends. I always had a DLS jacket there that I brought home during weekends coz I would often feel cold. But somehow, my memory of that DLS jacket was of Mark Misa wearing it...
May napanalunan ka bang award?
The certificates every quarter, mostly. Trish and I won second (or was it third??) place in the Science Fair. Mostly coz Sir Degs (Alvin De Guzman) told us we could and should join, so we did. Then he showed us what project we could do, so we did that. He taught us the principle behind it, so we studied that. Basically, he told us everything we needed to know and we just meekly followed him.
Anong inumin ang lagi mong binibili?
Mr. Teo's iced tea. I did like the "mix" drink when I was in grade 3. That was where the drink lady would put all the drinks in the softdrink dispenser into one glass. A lot of people thought it was gross, but it tastes really nice. A mixture of coke, royal, rootbeer, sprite...
Sino class officers nyo nung 4th year?
I remember King Stehmier as prez... Carlo... what was his name? He was King's "sidekick"... Castro! There we go. I don't remember his first name but everyone called him Castro. He was vice. Nadine, I think, was secretary. Wait... was she even my classmate? Or was it Christa who was secretary? Argh! Don't remember. Oh, wait, I think Billy Billano was treasurer.
May codenames ba kayo sa mga teacher, ano yun?
Daga or Rat for Sir Degs... Kulot kay... I forget. Basta, yung Technical Writing teacher. Mama Luds for Mrs. Reyes... Orli for Mr. Viar... Jade for Mr. Laygo... F Alert for Ms. Figuerres... Hm... sino pa ba? Ah, kalabaw for the THE guy. And I don't recall the others. If I see the yearbook, I can probably remember more.
Sumali ka ba ng slogan making at poster making para lang ma-excuse sa class?
I think I was volunteered, once...
Nakapag-print ka ba kahit minsan sa comp lab?
Sa library, yeah... the assignments of my friends, as mentioned above.
Nanalo ba batch nyo sa cheering competition?
Hell yeah! Our batch still holds the record for most Championships won. Or something like that. 4-time champs, peeps! Uh... grade 6, 7, sophomore and senior.
Nag YFC ka ba?
Yeah. And camp was one of the most memorable moments of my life LOL
Anong theme ng graduation niyo?
There was one? I just remember the pride at being the "millenium batch". We were batch 'OO. I do remember Tim Limgenco's speech starter. Something like: "20 years from now, we will have established a colony in Mars. 10 years from now, [some scientific breakthrough]. 5 years from now [something-something], but 10 minutes from now, I don't even know if I'll ever be seeing any of you again" of course, that started the tear ducts...
Final grade sa accounting?
Don't remember. It was nothing stellar. --> hon, Ro, accounting was a blah subject. We weren't given grades, we were given Pass/Fail. I passed.
Saan kayo dumederetso after ng exams?
ATC! And, when it was built, Festi!
Astig ba ang stay mo sa zobel?
Hell yeah! But I like what Ro said: "That would be an understatement. I can't imagine being in any other school. (^_^)"
Natatandaan mo pa ba Alma Mater nyo?
Sure. After all, I also sang it when I graduated from college LOL and I've been singing it even before I went to La Salle (c/o of my brother):
Hail, hail alma mater
Hail to De La Salle
We'll hold your banner high and bright
A shield of green and white
We'll fight to keep your honor bright and never shall we fail
Hail to thee our alma mater
Hail hail hail!
Repeat 3x LOL I didn't bother to re-type it. My brother was always fond of saying that the original line went: "we'll fight to keep your glory bright". I was also fond of another DLSZ song and it's really too bad that we rarely sang it.
De La Salle, our alma matter
De La Salle, now here are we
Every faithful son and daughter
Will lead you on to victory
To the green, the gold and white then
Led us pledge our loyalty
As we strive to add fame to that honored name
De La Salle, De La Salle
One word to describe life in zobel?
One word? Awesome! More than one word? The best years of my life :D
Man. Now I miss my batch and my old school and old friends and... waaaaah
Edit
Re: Lupang hinirang/Panatang makabayan/etc... as Trish reminded me, we were once chosen to do the readings for one mass. I remember that I got stuck with the first reading and I was practicing reading to Trish and Lee and when I got to the part of "monstrous beasts" I read it as "monstrous breasts". Methinks I read too much romance novels, yes? LOL
Re: Noli fest... Primo wasn't too bad pala. I went to sleep the night I posted this, trying to remember if all three were as bad as I made them out to be. Carlo and Mike were harder to gather to go to practices, but Primo did what he could. Carlo and Mike also cooperated, once you got them to show up at practices.

Random Zobel mems: learning how to solder with a DIY soldering iron. Making a rattan tray. Making pajamas! Cooking with Trillo. The disgusting carrot spaghetti. Feeding said spaghetti to Laygo! Bobby Agcaoili's retainer lost and found on the THE kitchen floor. Making the AP-CL video project (thanks for choosing *ahem* and not ME to be on your group!) Erwin, Sailormoon and hentai. What generous gift did Erwin get you that year? Roa got Pugad Baboy X which cost P500ish and I got an anime OST CD. Aha! The angel gifts! :-P The P1 to P10 list. Ooh, automotive class! What'd we learn? I just remember the "draw your dream car" assignment and I had JM draw whatever. And I remember WinPopup! I do that in the office nowadays, mwahaha.
Good times, good times.
when you talked about the "i'm alive, alert, awake, enthusiastic" song, i remember how we sang it. how it was pronounced. "enthusiastic" only had 4 syllables. LOL. so it came out "en-tu-shas-tic". GOOD LORD.
