PD Mid-Culminating Activity
Today we had our Physical Diagnosis Mid-culminating Activity wherein we had to interview (history, chief complaint, etc) and give a complete physical exam (vital signs, ent, head & neck, cvs, respiratory system, gastrointestinal system) to an honest-to-goodness patient.
We used to do PD wardwork on clerks, and that usually by module or system and not all mashed up together. Now, we had to mash them all up and face a patient. Siyempre, sobrang nakakahiya naman kung sabog ka, diba? Kung mali-mali yung ginagawa mo sa harap ng doktor. I was nervous. I was terrified. Add the fact that I wasn't able to practice the maneuvers due to lack of time; I mean, I knew it all but it wasn't like I felt super duper prepared. I supposed it wouldn't be so bad if we were doing clerks since, after all, they all went through what we're going though now. But real patients? Yeah, right!
Anyway, my partner was Bloi and we lucked out and got Dr. See. I had him before for the CVS-Respi module and he's a nice guy. So far, I haven't had any of the toxic Docs as a precep and I certainly hope my luck holds until, oh, fourth year. Heheh umasa pa noh? Hey, I can wish.
Anyway, we had an assigned patient so Bloi and I were doing some last minute cramming as we waited for Doc to arrive. He did and we followed him and off we went... to the wards. Y'know, when I envisioned this, I always figured we'd be doing it in the doctor's clinic. Y'know, one of their patients would be asked if they didn't mind us poking and prodding and interviewing them. But, nooo... we were in the wards. Honest-to-goodness wards. Not even private room. Not even airconditioned. And the curtain partitions kept flying around so privacy was really not an option. Tapos dami pang nurses sa labas, ewan ko bakit.
Anyway, we followed Dr. See from the office to the wards, giggling all while, which led him to ask, "bakit kayo natatawa?" our reply, "kinakabahan kasi po kami..." I think he had no idea what to make of that because he gave us this semi-blank look and after, decide to ignore all our giggling. Yeah. How's that for professionalism? LOL
Anyway, outside the door to the ward, he told us the general idea of what we were to do - which we already knew but it was nice to get confirmation, and then showed us our patient. And so it began.
History taking was not so bad, although we got confused on some points and, sometimes, couldn't hear him talk since, for crying out loud, the man was in pain! Bloi and I felt so bad coz we had no choice but to ask him stuff and there he was lying down, occassionally shifting his weight and grimacing in pain. The poor man. We just wanted it over and done it. And we knew he felt exactly the same way. I don't think he had any idea, really, what he was agreeing to when he said yes.
Bloi and I were afraid of touching him, not coz we were grossed out but coz we didn't want to cause any more pain to the poor man. Our patient had abdominal pain which started last Thursday evening and continues until now (well he was still in pain in front of us) and his abdomen was slightly distended. And we all know that do to a physical examination of the abdomen, we had to palpate, percuss, auscultate, and inspect said painful body part. Hay.
Anyway, back to the interview, we got all the pertinent history, only forgetting to ask how many years he's been smoking, but otherwise, we were able to cover what we needed. More or less. Hey, it wasn't perfect, not like the way we'd do it when dealing with clerks, and we were definitely nervous. But like I said (and keep saying), it was fine.
But then we began the physical exam. Bloi started it by getting the vital signs like blood pressure, heart rate, respiratory rate, pulse rate and we were also supposed to get the temperature but just as we were finishing up our interview, a clerk came by to get our patient's temp so we used that. As we were discussing who'd do the next one, Dr. See gave us a few more pointers and then left. And that, for us, is a good thing. I mean, y'know, no prof breathing down our necks and stuff. Although we'll miss out on the feedback, we were fine. Besides, we knew what we had to do anyway, we were just nervous about doing it.
In the end, we skipped a lot of the exams dahil naaawa talaga kami sa kanya. Tapos medyo sabog pa kami coz there are exams that you have do while lying down and some exams while sitting down. Our patient was in pain, people, and had a hard time sitting up and whatnot. So we had to mess up the sequence for his comfort and made sure we did all the lying-down ones before making him sit-up and when he was seated, we rushed through the sit-down exams. So, yeah, we missed quite a bit. Because we were too worried about his comfort, even though he kept saying na kaya pa niya. Still, somehow I got the feeling that he just wanted us to leave so that he can rest and forget about the pain for a while. And yet, there we were and we were all, "tatay, pasensya na po ha? pero kasi, kelangan namin gawin ito eh..."
Still. Glad to have survived. It'd have been fun if it weren't for the terrifying factor. For the final culminating activity though, I'm definitely bullying my family to be guinea pigs (if I have time) since that'll cover EVERYTHING.
NARNIA
I'm such a cradle-snatcher. I dig the guy who played Peter... mostly because I adore his role. Y'know, the protective older brother who's still somehow a kid and all innocent but determined to take care and protect his siblings to the best of his abilities? Yeah. Such a sweetie. 'Course, it doesn't hurt that his hair just kind of flops over his forehead and I just really wanna brush it back... Sigh. And he's so cute during the start when he's using his sword and looks, for all the world, like he has no idea what he's doing but he's determined to do at least try. Such a great actor. Especially since, in the battle scene, he acts more comfortable in handling his sword. Looks like a real manly warrior. And if he's the one who planned the entire campaign then I must say, that for someone who claimed to know nothing about war, he did pretty damn good. And his armor... and his whole fighting thing... Can I just hug him? Can I just keep him? Aw...
Anyway, I'm here to talk about the movie, not my newest pedofile crush-let. So... yes. The movie. What can I say? Two thumbs up, great one all around. Let's just say that this movie is definitely up there with the LOTR trilogy and the Harry Potter franchise. And THAT's saying a lot. Too bad I can't watch it again and again and again like I did for LOTR and HP.
And I heard that this movie made it to the record books for being the longest title: "The Chronicles Of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch, And The Wardrobe". I'll say it again: I really love and loved the movie!! I wanna watch it again!
Catching Up
Naghahabol ako ng grades ngayon... kaya to my friends, pasensya na if I can't email that often or get to text or go out as much as I'd want to. Man. The next three months seem to be quite hectic. Haaaay.
Edit:
Peter Pevensie:
Good - played by William Moseley; I've always liked the name William
Bad - he was born in 1987
Good - he's 5'11"
Bad - there's not much info on him, it's not like I can build an image of him in my head
Good - he's 18; already legal
Bad - he is 18 and waaay too young; can you say chester (child molester)? :p hehehe
Still, he really looks good, y'know. Also, Liam Neeson voices Aslan which is probably why he sounded so good. Another good choice for that would be Sean Connery and John Rhys Davies but I think their voices are too distinctive so it was nice to go with someone who had a really nice voice but isn't that recognizable.
The actors who played the older Peter and Edmund are also cute... named Noah Huntley and Mark Wells, respectively; at least, they're older.
Man. Why do I have a penchant for guys who are either too young or too old? Why can't I stick to my age range? Not to mention, my geographical range.
