It's Good To Be Bad

I know when I was a little kid, it was the "in" thing to be good. To be the best in everything that you did and stuff... that it was "cool" to get a red star stamped on the back of your hand or have a very big "VG" written on your paper. So when exactly did it become "good" to be "bad"?

Like I'm not sure when it started... but then it became "in" to not have studied, to be cheating off people, to not be responsible in doing assignments and leaving projects to be done at the last minute. Those who were conscientious students were labelled with such negative terms such as "nerd", "geek", "brown-noser", and "loser". And obviously, nobody wanted to stick out like a sore thumb when you're a self-conscious adolescent.

As one grows up, it becomes "cool" to have smoked (or be a smoker), to have drinked (or be a drinker), or even take drugs (although that's still the most taboo of all the vices). It was cool to be out partying, to be going out often, and the later at night you sleep, the cooler you were. It was cool if you drank before you were of age and snuck behind your parents' backs for numerous things.

How come?

Some people outgrow that, becoming "mature" and "responsible" and "conscientious" adults. But most don't.

So. When did it be good to be bad?

i guess it starts when you let yourself be peer pressured. when you hang out with the wrong crowd. i was just lucky i guess i ended up with a HS barkada that didn't like drinking and smoking. Bad becomes good when people surrounding you think it's the cool thing to do. I agree, that if you can differentiate b/w good and bad by yourself, and not allowing others to pressure you, you can call yourself a responsible person.=)
