Rush Hour
I burned the midnight oil last night, sleeping at 4am, studying for my exams today. We had a 100-item 10-topic exam that was only part 1 of one of our modules (respiratory module, in case you’re wondering) plus a Microbiology laboratory practical exam. This is microbiology, which is a nightmare of scientific names and laboratory procedures. Good thing the coverage was only mycoses (fungi), which narrowed it down to one. Imagine if we had to deal with bacteria (there’s a LOT of them!), viruses, and parasites? Forget it!
I managed to finish reading all the topics, thankfully, even though I kind of browsed through the last 3. And guess my shock when I woke up to a bright morning – at 815! And my exam was at 8am! Panic didn’t even begin to cover it. I just brushed my teeth, grabbed my uniform and hightailed outta my dorm, running wa-poise through the sidewalk and rushed into our classroom at 830 and sat at my chair. I spent the first 5 minutes concentrating on breathing. And somehow wondering what the heck was wrong with my uniform or myself.
See, after my hospital visit, I’ve been told to eat only home cooking and no oily stuff as well as have a low fat diet. Well I can’t get any of those in the dorm, right? So ever since Tuesday, I’ve been surviving on cereals with milk, Sustagen chocolate drink, coffee (only one cup so that I could stay awake last night), Sky Flakes crackers, and Gatorade. So explain to me, please, why are my uniform pants tight?! Is it me? Or did my tummy get all bloated somehow? All my other pants are fine. And I really thought I’d be shedding off the pounds and inches, so why am I not? Sa inis ko, kumain tuloy ako ng lunch – my usual half-rice and 2 ulam (what can I say? Malakas ako sa ulam) with the ulams being the oily types that I’m not supposed to eat.
Anyway, back to the exam… which I started at, say, 835. I ended up finishing at 9. Er… and I have no idea why. I was as surprised as anyone to realized I had finished blotting all 100 little circles in the space of 30 minutes. And, no, I have no idea how my test went. When you woke up at the time I did, hyperventilated the way I did, took the test as fast as I did, you never know just how you did on the stupid test.
So I ran back to the dorm coz I still have to take my gastric whatever medicine, take a bath, eat breakfast, and take my antibiotic then rush back to school for our 10am lab exams. To say I wasn’t able to study well for our micro exams is putting it mildly. It was said that we’d have a 10-item, 20-point move system exam in the lab and another 10-item, 20-point written exam in our classroom. In the end, we had a 10-item, 10-point move system exam in the lab… which is easy, when you think about it, but which I wasn’t able to study. Instead of asking about fungi, they asked about lab methods. Which… I didn’t really remember. So… good luck nalang. Heh.
Hay naku. Nakakapagod. I’m glad it’s over, though, and the next loooong and hard exam I have to worry is two Mondays from now. Actually, after this one-week “break”, I’ll have 3 hell weeks one after the other. Hehe. Good luck nalang.
In Twos And Trees
Just want a quick comment. There’s a bunch of undergrads in our school whose uniform consists of green pants and white blouse for the ladies and brown pants and beige polo for the boys. Every time I see a couple walk down the street, I’m reminded of trees. With the guys as the trunk and the girls as the leafy branches...
