CVS (CardioVascular System)
What is it about being a cardiologist that makes you such a boring lecturer? It started in first year, we had Dr. Mendoza for physiology in our CVS module. His time was nap time. And now, this year, we started CVS module yesterday and so far we've had four lectures, and three of those we had cardio profs. Our first, Dr. Domingo-Tan (I think; sorry, I barely know half of our profs - I'm really bad with names and faces and why should I bother to remember them when some of them only give 1-2 lectures in the entire year?) and hers wasn't too bad. Boring, yes, but not so bad. And then we had... uh... Dr. Tirona, I think his name was. I think it was the first PD class that was boring and lasted the entire freaking session. Lastly was Dr. Pacifico and don't even get me started on him. He took one hour just to get through one page of his lecture! And we had three pages and two hours! He finished right on time, though, so I guess that's a consolation - that he didn't go overtime.
During the start of the afternoon, the people in the classroom (those who did attend) were all slouching down in their seats and some were making quiet conversation. More than half who were in class wished they had just skipped the afternoon class and I think some even left during the short break between our first and second afternoon sessions.
During our second afternoon session, Dr. Pacifico's lecture, the class was kind of quiet... and Erika said it was probably because they were all half-asleep LOL I kind of agree with her. There were only four people who were wide awake - and they weren't listening. Those four were cracking up in the back corner of the classroom, switching around a 1/4 piece of paper and writing down notes. Yes, they were me, Erika, Verne, and Pao. The three of them started it first, actually, since I had gone out to go to the bathroom and found the third years hanging out in the corridors, post-test, and decided to hang out a bit with Jenni. Anyway, when I came back, Erika showed me the first one-fourth sheet of paper and I joined in.
It started with Erika asking Pao (and Verne) if he has started studying for our big-time heavy-duty Monday evals (part 2 of Respiratory module and TB module - all in all, about 2 1/2 inches of transcripts to study) plus our Bioethics evals on Friday. Pao says no, Verne says "pag-aaral? anu yun?" So Pao wrote...
Pag-aaral - panonood ng TV pagdating sa dorm
- pagtulog pagkatapos manood ng TV
- pagkain
- at panonood ng DVD all night long
Based on that, Verne says that she studies every night. Then Pao asks if there's any other definition of 'pag-aaral' and I write, "pag-aaral - bukas ang libro/tranx sa mesa, naka-on ang TV/DVD, tapos ikaw nasa kusina, kumakain". And we all agreed that we all do that. So, nag-aaral kami gabi-gabi, lagi LOL
Then the talk went to DVDs and Pao was asking for what to borrow and Erika tossed off ideas, throwing in Sailormoon as a joke. I followed by saying that Pao should borrow Sailormoon and Pao countered by saying that I should dance the dance (it's this reeaaally baduy dance) and the teasing grew from there. See, there's a dancing part there and Erika and Verne always laughingly dance a part of it sometimes and I've told them that if they dance it in front of me, I'm disowning them. And now, Pao wants me to do the dance? And Verne and Erika joined in, supporting Pao when he said that he's going to suggest it for our JFT (a one-night yearly inter-batch presentation/competition), that I was going to dance alone. Sabi ko, wag nga. And we spent the better part of the last hour, laughing hysterically to ourselves and passing little slips of paper back and forth among ourselves.
Needless to say, I don't we (or anybody else in our class, for that matter) understood the lecture. Di bale, may notes at libro naman, diba?
Now, I'm back to studying for our big-time heavy-duty evals on Monday. Finals is just around the corner so September is officially Hell Month. Hope I survive with my sanity intact :p
