RUNAWAY JURY
(those who haven’t watched and want to watch, don’t read this… there are spoilers, heh)
Again, John Grisham writes another lawyer movie and again, Hollywood makes money out of it. I have no complaints, I think John Grisham always delivers and “Runaway Jury” is no exception. It is filled with twists and turns that boggle the mind. But it’s damn good. Even though I don’t have that much experiences with law, it’s really cool to figure out.
There’s this part there that saddens me, though. The part where one of the characters say something like, “do you honestly think there’s such a thing as an objective jury? Of course not!” and I kind of think that’s true. That’s not to say I’m cynical or I don’t believe in the goodness of man. I’m like Dustin Hoffman who played Atty. Rourke (?) who is this idealist who believes that good prevails and all that. In a sense, it’s kind of true. But that’s not to say that Gene Hackman’s character (whose name escapes me at the moment) is also wrong in his belief that everybody has a price and a jury is his for the taking/buying. I like the way John Grisham ended the whole thing by sort of… relying on the goodness of man. Again. Because I’ve read some of his books, and sometimes they don’t exactly end happily ever after. Still, I like the way he twists everything around until the outcome just totally blows you away. It’s sooo cool! I wish I could write like him.
Ooh… and Rachel Weisz is such a great actress!! Although whenever I see her, “The Mummy” always comes to mind…
John Cusack is, as always, cute and a very good actor. All the others read like Hollywood’s guess-who and they all work to make the movie excelente.
