ANATOMY: NEUROANATOMY

Well… my choices for specialization are heart surgery, brain surgery, and cosmetic surgery. Cardio because I like blood (morbid, I know) and the fact that it pumps and the fact that it’s a tense specialization. I work best under pressure. Brain surgery because of the same reason… except that I think there’s more pressure on a neurologist than a cardio, although both are equally demanding in their own way. Cosmetic surgery because the money will be there in the future, most likely, not to mention that there is an increasing demand for it. I doubt if I’ll take the last choice seriously though… because I don’t like tampering with what God gave.

(Forgive me if this sounds like a lecture on neuroanatomy… it helps me study… and keeps me awake too.)

We’re studying neuroanatomy now. It’s very interesting… which reaffirms my interest in neurology. Unfortunately, memorization has been the bane of my existence and neurology has tons and tons and tons of it. More so than heart. Every single nook and cranny of your brain has a name. Not to mention a different name for it’s embryologic beginning. Still, it’s very interesting. And to know what parts correspond to what kind of thinking.

Everybody knows that your right brain is geared towards spatial thoughts… the ‘artistic’ side, if you will while the left brain is your logical and calculating side. However, they cross through the corpus callosum (naks! may alam ako!) and you’re dominant side is usually bigger… and has a few parts that your non-dominant side doesn’t. Isn’t that cool? Just given a brain and you’d know already what’s the dominant side of the person. And you know how some people have an easy time remembering things and some don’t? Or that scent is the easiest (fastest? Strongest?) trigger for memory. Because it’s all related there, in your head. It’s the hippocampus, your memory center… w/c is also the place where you feel emotions. As for the scent bit… it’s near your olfactory center too. So they’re all pretty much related to each other.

And I’ll stop writing coz I’m boring even myself :p hee!
