I was driving and there wasn't any radio station that was satisfying me so my mind wanders like it tends to do while driving (well of course, I was still concentrating on the road! just... woolgathering some...) and here are a few insights gained :p
LIVE vs. DRIVING
1. The Windshield
In driving: you must be aware of everything in front, watch the cars surrounding you, read the road signs, see the road you're taking and make sure it's the right one.
In life: you must also be aware of your surroundings, the people around you, the people you've surrounded yourself with; you should also be aware of the road you're taking if it's the right one you want to take in your life or not; you should also read the road signs, the little omens and opportunities that crop up in your life and follow them as you see fit.
2. The Rearview Mirror
In driving: you must check it every now and then, whenever you overtake or change lanes or turn left or right, you must check it to see if there's a car behind you; when backing up, you need to also use it so you don't rearend someone.
In life: always take note of your past even as you're living in the present and looking towards the future; you can't spend the rest of your life looking at the rearview mirror (representing your past) because then you'd never be able to go forward; yet you can never completely ignore your past either because it shapes you, and you certainly don't want to repeat the same mistakes you made before.
3. The Side Mirrors
In driving: you have to check this when seeing how near you're parking towards the car next to you, you have to check this as your turn, as you make a u-turn, as you shift lanes or whatever; also remember that your right side mirror (on a left-side drive) is your blind spot, you don't just look at the mirror, you have to turn your head to see if the coast is clear.
In life: people around you aren't always what they seem, you could be blind to who they are so they deserve a second, clearer look; also in life, you don't just need to see what's in front of you, you also have to see the sides - get a clearer picture of everything because being able to make a decision or even making your mind for anything.
(i.e. windshield and sidemirrors must be checked and cleared before turning)
4. The Wheel
In driving: duh, you need it to steer, to control where you want your car - and you - to go
In life: you make your own decisions, your own way; you can't blame another for the things you did or where you are in your life, after all, even if someone told you to "go left, go left!" it's you who holds the steering wheel
5. The Gear Stick
In driving: this controls your speed - duh -and if you're going forward, backward, or not going at all; and in controling it, you have to know where it's appropriate to speed and when you should downshift and slow down
In life: you must control your speed, because there are times when steamrolling through life is fine and others when you should just kick back, relax, and enjoy the view; also change is good and change is the center of growth and, by extension, life, so changing gears into faster, slower, or reverse, or even neutral, is a must in life
